Who wouldn’t want to live in Manilva? This welcoming municipality, located by the sea on the Costa del Sol, is not only picturesque to the eye but steeped in fascinating history and delightful Andalusian culture. The region is now acknowledged for offering superb real estate at inexpensive prices and is fast becoming one of the most popular residential destinations in this part of Spain.

Manilva is set at the most southwest point of the province of Málaga, where it touches borders with Cádiz, and is comprised of several distinct areas and coastal villages, each with their own appeal. The village of Manilva is situated just a few kilometres inland, a traditional whitewashed hamlet with narrow streets, bodegas and bundles of Spanish charm. The original fishing port is called San Luís de Sabinillas (known locally as Sabinillas) just a short drive to the east of the peaceful marina Puerto Duquesa, a waterside neighbour of the historic Castillo de la Duquesa.

Due to its position at the entrance to the Mediterranean, Manilva has appreciated a long history of settlements whose presence can still be seen in the area. There are ancient caves in the Sierra Utrera limestone ridge above the town, a Bronze Age hill fort and Roman remains of a factory, villa and bathhouse on its coastline.

In the surrounding region lie picturesque vineyards famous for Moscatel grapes and the superb La Duquesa Golf Country Club and golf course that is considered challenging and very good value for money. At the beginning of September each year, the town celebrates the end of the grape harvest with ‘Vendimia’ a festival that encompasses a religious procession, traditional stomping of grapes, wine sampling and a festive party in the town square.
